In memoriam

Mick Stratton

Mick passed away on Christmas day 2022 after a short illness. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. The boxes that he made, many with threaded lids, were all excellent. We will miss his regular contributions to the coffee morning and the evening meetings always cheerful and ready to take the micky as well as a skilled turner.

I am retired and lived in Spain until 2021 and now live in Lincolnshire. Turning is one of my hobbies. I had a break from turning for 10 years but resumed recently.

A sad day when we heard of your passing Mick. You will be missed by many friends near and far. You have traveled many miles throughout your life and visited many places, and now you can travel forever. Your friendship through the zoom club will not be the same without you as you hold a special place within us all. Rest in Peace Mick.

Mick was always a lively contributor to our regular Zoom meetings and will be much missed. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person in 2021 as he and Martin travelled down to Cranleigh to visit my colleagues and I at the Surrey Hills Wood Fair. RIP Mick.

So sorry to hear of Mick’s passing. I never met him in person but we had many chats on our zoom meetings. His banter and sense of humour kept us all laughing. Like my wife and I, he loved Whitby and I’m smiling as I write, when I remember the time he told me where to get the best meat pies in Whitby, and he was right, they were delicious.
He will be greatly missed by us all.
    RIP. Mick.

Very sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of meeting Mick at the Bury and Lincolnshure clubs, and the very wicked humour carried on, as on the zoom club. Nice chap, very likeable and our turning world will miss him. RIP Mick.

Covid-19 had some good things develope from it. The formation of virtual events and clubs was amongst the biggest for us woodturners. Lots of new friendships were forged with people all across the world. Mick Stratton attended many of these meetings and became a good friend to many. Mick was a welcome character to any meetings I was involved with. His Irish connection through his family always brought great banter and fun. Mick was a gentleman and will be missed by many. Rest in peace my friend!

I had the honour of becoming friends with Mick. I met him through the tough periods of lockdown through the various YouTube woodturning channel meetings and also through the Woodturning Zoom Club. I was fortunate to also have had the opportunity to meet with him directly. He bought great humour and fun to all the occassions we met on. I will miss his lovely personality and will always remember him dearly with great affection. A sad loss for us all. James

So sad to hear about the loss of Mick, a genuine interesting and sincere person. He is a great loss as club member but a bigger loss as a good friend.
Mick quietly sat in the corner on the zoom meetings for weeks when first joining 2 years ago. He was brought into conversations in the breakout rooms and very quickly gained confidence as well as many friends. I am honoured to have had such a great friendship with Mick in both the live and virtual worlds with so many laughs over the time. RIP my friend you will be missed but not forgotten.

Very sad to hear of Micks passing. He always made me smile with his banter, and light-hearted ways, which seems to be a common theme thread commented on by other club members. I have only met him through the zoom meetings, but enjoyed our discussions, and his readiness to share his knowledge. We will all miss him – RIP Mick.

So sad to hear of Micks passing I knew him only on our zoom club but was drawn by his banter (mainly at me and my political views) but always in jovial way apart from his wit he was an excellent woodturner, boxes seemed to be his specialities and gave his knowledge freely, coffee mornings will not be the same without Mick RIP brother

I will miss mick, very much a good friend, I loved his banter, and I shared his opinion on political correctness, ie what is it !!!! He always help you in anyway he could and shared his knowledge, even shared his holiday snaps of a chair full of gollywogs he found in Whitby, which really made him laugh. I will always remember the night we first met in person when the zoom club came to bury st Edmunds, and what a great night it was, I will never forget our last conversation on Christmas Eve, it will stay with me forever, rest in peace my friend, and remember GO STEADY. X
